I have had the privilege to try the Learn Math Fast system out with my struggling math student/daughter who is entering 3rd grade this year. We were ready for something new. We used to struggle and argue through math and now that has all changed. I had high hopes when I received my copies of the Learn Math Fast System Volumes, 1 & 2. I was not let down it turns out it is even better than I had originally even imagined... This system is really fast, it s not just a name it really does work. The First volume which is 275 pages will teach first to third grade math. Yep 3 grade levels!! After your child has successfully completed just 2 workbooks they will have completed all the way through 6th grade math. I had thought about starting her in the middle of volume 1 in the level that I thought she was at which would be multiplication, but I am so happy I didn t because she not only strengthened her addition and subtraction skills, she learned a ton of new tricks and is now adding mostly in her head, even big numbers...amazing!! -I am learning new methods of math too, my math has never been strong, but now I have new tools to do the basic math I need in my everyday life. -These books are so easy for her to do even without me. About the Author
I'm J.K. Mergens, the author of the Learn Math Fast System. When I was a teenager, I told my future husband that I wanted to write a book someday, the only problem was I had nothing to write about. Years later, we had our only son and decided to homeschool him. I gathered up some textbooks and we began our journey. I used an old public school textbook to teach math to him, but when we got to multiplication I noticed he had difficulties. I asked him, "How much is 4 x 3?" He had no idea. I said, "You know that 4 + 4 is 8, so how much is 8 plus 4 more?" He still had no idea. I was shocked. I went to bed that night and prayed. I said, "Lord, give me a way to teach my child how to see numbers in his mind the way I do." The next morning, I had my answer. I taught my son what I was taught and he quickly excelled in math. Then we got to fractions and the methods used in that textbook, just weren't getting the message across. So I grabbed a dollar bill, four quarters, and taught him my own way. In just one week, he had fractions down. Next, was algebra. The textbook I had was written with such a high vocabulary, that I had to breakdown every sentence and then re-explain it in my own words; words that my teenage son could understand. This worked so well for my son that he enrolled in college at age 16 and was hired on as a math tutor. Today he is an Engineer with a great job. Once our son enrolled in college, my husband said to me, "Why don't you write that book you always wanted to." I quickly replied, "I can write about homeschooling!" He said, "Yeah, you could, but you should write what you know. You know math! Show everyone how you taught our son to have college level math by age 16. Teach all those tricks I heard you make up for our son over the years." And so I did. In 2009, I released my first book. I handed out books for free, just to get feedback. To my surprise, I heard good things. They told me the book worked! My husband was shocked too, so he encouraged me to keep writing. He told me to write a series of books that teach 1st -12th grade math. As of 2015, I have completed seven books and they cover 1st - 12th grade math. They aren't written like your typical textbook, but they WORK! They are being used in nearly every major city across America plus over a dozen other countries. I also like that I don't feel like we are behind when ...

My daughter is in 4th grade, but she is finally ready to really push through and learn her math facts. We are using this as a supplement to her regular math curriculum, focusing on getting her speed up. Using it for 10-15 minutes a day has been making a difference. I expect she'll be done with it by the end of the year, and I'm really thankful to have found something simple. I also like that I don't feel like we are behind when it takes 2-3 days to learn a lesson well.

and I'm glad I did

I started this program this week! I'm an adult who plans on going thru the entire system as my math education lacks. So I chose this, and I'm glad I did. For an older adult it's kind of weird starting on this book, but I'm open to it. I like that the only manipulatives are pennies. So I can choose to use them, or not.

I have been very pleased with this math system. I never expected it to make such an extreme difference nor as quickly! My 8 yr old son with mild ADHD has NEVER completed a page of ANYTHING without being prompted to "move onto the next problem/question". I walked him through his first page on day 1 but on day 2 he flew his work without any help or errors. Last night he asked for a page to do for "fun". I can't say enough good things about this system. Love it.
